  1. It was great having the group of you last night. It was nice having the company of crazy California people. I guess you never know what the weather may bring you. Speaking of that the weather for today 6-15-2009 does not look that promising for late today. Hopefully you will find another dry place to stay. We will keep up with your progress. Keep those wheels turning and be safe. The Mashburns

  2. To the family and friends, this is David Mashburn. The crew stayed with our family last night and are doing great. We watched them ride past the house in the rain yesterday evening and we invited them in for the night. They had planned to camp in someones back yard in the rain. It did not take much to talk them into staying at our place with real beds and a shower. Anyway I was just letting everyone know that they are doing well. They are a few days behind in post due to lack of wireless internet and need for sleep when they arrive at their new destination. They are passing thru Berea Kentucky this morning. They made it thru the mountains and into the rolling hills. I have some pictures on facebook if anyone is interested. You can look me up by name or email address at mugglebuster@Hotmail.com

  3. Hi Mike and company,
I wanted to let you know how we are enjoying reading of your escapades. I sent your blog address to several friends and have already heard from them about you. You are a great writer and I can almost (of course not really) feel a little of what you are going through. I have also been chased by dogs (in Illinois, so get ready) while bike riding and even bit on the calf 2 or 3 times. We celebrated Ben's 23rd BD last weekend and everyone missed you. Just think how healthy your heart and legs will be after this! Keep pedaling.

  4. Hey Adam! Sooooo good to hear your voice. I am glad to hear you have great reflex action when jumping out of the way of a speeding car! So, I ordered your sleeping mat and I feel good to know that you will be sleeping better. Let us know where you are in Illinois...how cool would that be if we connected somewhere while we are in IOWA! Love you so much....Mom & Dad

  5. Dear David Mashburn & family,

From the mother of Jordan Laughlin, thank you for providing my son, and the rag-tag team of bikers, a place to lay their heads last night. The kindness of a stranger is never forgotten.

Once again, thank you for the hospitality you provided a great group of kids!

  6. To the Mashburns,(and all of the other nice people that have opened up your homes) thank you for taking the kids in. All of us parents cannnot thank you enough for your kind hearts. So far your adventure has been riveting for all of us following. I am living through you guys on a daily basis. Spoke to Mr. Roddy the other day, and we were both saying how jealous and proud of you guys we are. Eat lots of food, stay hydrated, get your sleep, take viatmins, watch your desents, and enjoy every pedal stroke.

  7. We truely enjoyed having them stay with us. Our little girl Ava had such a great time playing with them and was sad this morning that they left along with the rest of us. I hate that I was not able to see them off this morning, I had to go to work before they woke up. I think that we kept them up too late trading stories and they needed some rest. Although they are out of the mountains for now they still have a lot of ground to cover. They seem to be a very determined group of great friends all helping each other out. I wish you could have seen them riding past our house yesterday. Their was rain, small hail, hard headwinds, and plenty of lightning. If the weather was not so bad I would have never seen them. I kept watching this impressive storm outside when they rode by. How lucky for everyone involved. I just wish that we could have visited for longer but thats how it goes. Well tell the boys that the Mashburns say hello.

  8. Hey guys,

Glad to hear that the weather has been improving. Thanks so much to the Mashburns, you saved them from some awful camping. The writing is entertaining, you have always been the creative roddy. Hope those topography maps stay kind to you guys and have fun!

  9. All the stories of rain from the east coast has sent a light rain on San Diego tonight.
    Would you believe that?
Mike, Grandpa and I look forward every evening to reading about the days experiences recorded not only by word but also by photo. Thank you for this adventure.
Jordan, maybe Uncle Frank will have some homemade Salsa and chips waiting for you in Illinois. Uncle Jim taught him how to make it and it should taste a bit like home.
Stay well and enjoy every mile.
