The German.

A cop stopped by the impromptu campsite last night but he had no problem with our sleeping there and drove on after saying hello. Our particular awning houses the little league snack bar for one of the fields and we could peer in the window and see a variety of chips, ice cream, corn nuts, etc. The ice machine scared us a little bit before we figured out what was making the noise. We all kept our pledge to wake up at 7 AM and departed right around 8:30.

We blew through a few miles before meeting another touring cyclist, Chris the German. So far everybody we've met has been going the opposite direction but Chris is going west as well so we joined forces. It started to rain a bit but we took shelter at the Lincoln Homestead State Park and ate a few snacks before riding again. We now have at least three varieties of trail mix to choose from. We made it 50 miles and into a place called Bardstown before 1 PM. Now that's bicycle touring. The town has a roundabout and brick buildings and a tree-lined row of restaurants and shops. We had a very civilized lunch in a downtown cafe although there was some consternation about a mislabeling on the menu that meant breakfast wasn't actually available to order. We discussed strategy at the close of the meal. Chris was planning to finish his day in Bardstown and then do 95 tomorrow to the next town with major services. He won us over and we decided to stay at the campground for the night.

First, however, we rode over to the library and used our hour allotments of internet access. Then we rode off to the campground, had a few showers and cycled back into downtown for beers at the Boone Tavern. Chris was extremely generous to pick up the tab. We'll probably ride on with him until Chester, Illinois where we take our first major rest stop. Today is the first day that we've actually spent an afternoon taking in the sights. This is opposed to having two hours before going to sleep and going at it furiously again. The Germans are on to something. Easier living makes for less conflict on this website but I'm sure disaster will rear it's ugly head once more. Here's to enjoying the good days.

Wait. Who's that?

Move in special.

Lunch time at Mammy's. A new friend.

I'm kinda concerned about the H20 carrying issue out west. Fill the frames with water? Remember Easy Rider? hah!
Yeah, I thinks the Euros may be a bit more advanced in the slower-pace department...
Well keep those cards and letters coming, best of travels to you all.
